Byzantine Period (324 to 638 A.D.)

In the early fourth century B.C., Constantine I made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. The Council of Nicea, which standardized Christian beliefs and practices, took place in 325 A.D. In 390 B.C., Palestine was divided into three parts: Palestina Prima, Secunda and Tertia. All three areas remained under Byzantine rule until the Islamic conquest in 638 A.D., which ended the Christian era in the Holy Land.
