Today was great. It was not as hot, and there was actually a breeze now and then. I think we are all getting more used to the work now and are not as sore as we were last week. :) It is also very fun to see how much we are accomplishing.

We made a lot of progress today. We have a lot more help this week, which makes the work faster and easier. There are more volunteers and some youth involved in an archaeology camp are helping us as well. Two fifteen year old girls joined our group on the main street. They both are very nice and speak excellent English.

Our group did not find anything particularly exciting today, but some other groups did. A group working on the South Wall found a clasp for a toga. A girl from the group working at the "olive oil refinery" (which we do not know for sure if that is what it really is yet) found a small green bead. Of course, there is always pottery. :)

We had a pottery cleaning session this afternoon, which was fun. We all sat in a circle with buckets of water with pieces of pottery in them. The buckets are labeled with numbers that indicate the location where the pieces were found. We use little brushes to scrub off the dirt, which sounds easy but is actually quite time consuming. We especially have to scrub the edges so that pots and jars can be put back together. The most frequent question was "how clean is clean?" I guess when there is no more dirt on it!

It is going to be a great week!
