Paolo Visonà is Field Director of the Mamertion Foundation and head of the Monte Palazzi excavation in Calabria. His previous fieldwork experience includes digging in the Great Basin (southern California), northern Italy, Israel, Ivory Coast and at Carthage in North Africa. He has headed the excavations at Contrada Mella (possibly ancient Mamertion) in southern Calabria since 1987. He is currently a visiting professor in the Art Department at the University of Kentucky at Lexington.
