Dr. Israel Finkelstein is a professor of archaeology at Tel Aviv University and co-director of the Megiddo Expedition. He has directed excavations at several major sites throughout Israel, including Izbet Sartah, Tel Ira and Shiloh. His controversial ideas about the history and chronology of Iron Age Israel have received widespread attention.
Dr. Finkelstein has authored, along with Neil Asher Silberman, two recent books on the archaeology of ancient Israel: David and Solomon, In Search of the Bible's Sacred Kings and the Roots of the Western Tradition (Free Press, 2006) and The Bible Unearthed, Archaeology’s New Vision of Ancient Israel and the Origin of Its Sacred Texts (Simon and Schuster, 2001).
